A couple of quick news hits:
Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP announced today that it has snagged six natural resource lawyers from Cobbetts LLP for its London office.
The team is led by Andrew Wright — recently recognized by Who’s Who Legal as one of the world’s top mining lawyers — and includes Charles Bond, Sefton Collett, Dominic Prentis, David Brennan and Susan Johnston.
The group, which has been ranked the top UK mining team for the past three years by Morningstar, will definitely boost Gowlings’ mining presence in London. All six will form part of the firm’s energy, infrastructure and mining group.

Also, if you missed it, Bennett Jones announced yesterday the opening of its third office in the Persian Gulf, this one in Qatar’s Financial Centre in Doha. The firm already has two offices in the United Arab Emirates: in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
The new office makes Bennett Jones the first Canadian firm licensed by the Qatar Financial Centre Authority.
The firm plans to use the office – located in the impressive Alfardan Towers – to strengthen its beachhead in the Middle East, and leverage expertise in energy, Islamic project financing and project development, etc.
